This week 3rd-5th worked on becoming familiar with Word Processing. We started with the basics of learning how to center/left align text, indent, undo, and save a document. When we got through some basics to help with projects they may encounter throughout the year, we started talking about the expectations in college. We want them to be prepared when the time comes and work on starting good habits now!
I'm hoping we will get back to this later in the year. In addition, my goal is to start working on typing skills.
Kindergarten and 1st worked on learning their student number. Many of the kids who buy lunch were already pros at this. However, others need some practice. You can help your child by practicing their number at home. If you don't have it, send a note to their teacher, so they can write it down for you. This is the number they will use for logging onto a computer throughout their school career if they stay in Wake County.
Second grade worked on their number, but then worked on using the tracking pad on the laptops. We played some games that required them to move the mouse around and use the left click button. This practice prepares them for using the laptops independently in the classroom.
